The system is broke. What is happening at the Sycamore Park District in regards to Mike Doty is a far too common incident with governmental units. The fear of a lawsuit prevails over the public's right to know what is going on with their representative government and their tax dollars.
A shadow is now cast over the integrity of Doty and he may not deserve it. People are left to wonder if laws were compromised. If Doty is guilty of violating public trust. A "no tell" policy allows such an individual to prey on another community.
I certainly hear and concur with this post string's originator's concern about the good ol' boy network reviving itself in Sycamore. The signs of its return are growing and its not limited to the Park District.
The citizens and taxpayers are not well served when their elected officials make personnel decisions based on the paranoia of a lawsuit. The repercussions of such a policy is far more expensive than damages awarded in a court and the legal fees involved.
