Is it in your plans to someday have your home built the way you want it?  If so, then when those plans are taken off the shelf to become reality you become the captain of quite a large team.  The DeKalb County Building and Development Association (DCBDA) is an organization consisting of the All Stars of that team. A new home takes a lot more than a builder and developer to put it together.  The land on which the new home is to be built must be surveyed. The soil must be tested.  Deed and title research must be performed.  Roads, sidewalks, curbs and driveways have to be poured.  Sewer, water and utilities must be installed. 

That's a lot of "must be's," and we're just getting started.

The plans for your new home are designed by an architect.  The general contractor oversees the work performed by the excavators, carpenters, electricians, plumbers, masonry workers, roofers, drywallers, carpet layers, painters, locksmiths, etc., and their laborers.  She or he must also order and inspect the materials from the lumber, hardware and building supply stores.  Those materials must be delivered, along with appliances, furniture, fixtures and knick-knacks.

Don't forget the yard!  The seed stores, greenhouses and landscapers have to do their part.  Perhaps you will want a swimming pool, a fence, a deck and patio, an extra shed or a swing-set for the children.  Put in your mailbox and you are just about ready to move in. 

Wait.  You can't move in yet.  You might need a little help from a real estate agent. Time is money you know.  It is almost certain that you'll need some help from the banker.  To make sure everyone has been paid you will need the assistance of the Title companies.  Who makes sure every "i" is dotted and every "t" is crossed better than your attorney?  A new home is a huge investment.  You better protect it with an insurance policy.
